Book recommendation
I just finished reading Johann Büttikofer's "Travel Sketches from Liberia"
- originally published in 1890 and until recently only available in
German - and I am so impressed that I can't help but spread the word. If
you are interested in 19th century Liberia and want to get a better
understanding of the country, I highly recommend getting a copy of this
book. I know it's expensive, but it is worth it and truly deserves the
label "must-read". It consists of two parts, an itinerary (that at times
reads more like a novel than an expedition report), and an in-depth
treatment of the country, the people, politics, history and natural
history. Google Books has sample chapters.
