#F Registration Stamps

How about this set of used #F6-9 with handwritten numbers. I got this set many years ago.

  • Normally these registration stamps were not cancelled in Liberia, at least in the years 1894-1896 when they were commonly seen used as a proper registration franking, as intended. Liberia only wrote a registration number.

These examples do not appear to be cancelled in Liberia. I would do research to determine if they are valid cancels of some other country. If they are valid cancels, I would assume these stamps were postally used. Otherwise, I would assume they are forgeries appearing to represent valid usage.

Sometimes, other countries cancelled these registration stamps on arrival because Liberia did not, and these other countries assumed that they had to be cancelled.
