1948-60 Presidents Series - Issue dates

I am trying to find the date of issue for the Presidents series and I am seeing conflicting information between Von Saleski and Rogers. I know there is a lot of differences between the two but I was wondering if anyone has any first day covers, postmarked stamps or other catalogs that can help determine which issue date is correct. Below is a table of the different issue dates. I have omitted the rows where Rogers has Jul 21, 1949 and Von Saleski has Jul 22, 1949. By the way, Scott lists these omitted rows as Jul 21, 1949. According to an article reprinted in the LPS Journal, Jul 22, 1949 is the issue date.

Scott - Value - Rogers - Saleski
313 - 1c - Nov 18, 1948 - Nov 18, 1948 (The article mentioned above says Nov 15, 1948 and Saleski has a note that some say Nov 15)
317 - 5c - Jul 21, 1949 - no date given
319 - 7c - 1950 - no date given
322 - 10c - 1950 - no date given
328 - 1c - 1950 - no date given
371 - 1c - Dec 27, 1958 - Aug 1, 1958
372 - 2c - Dec 27, 1958 - Aug 1, 1958
373 - 10c - Dec 27, 1958 - Aug 1, 1958
374 - 15c - 1960 - 1959 (Scott lists this as 1959)
375 - 20c - Dec 27, 1958 - Aug 1, 1958
376 - 25c - Dec 27, 1958 - Aug 1, 1958
C118 - 25c - Dec 27, 1958 - 1959 (Scott lists this as 1958)
377 - 50c - 1960 - no date given (Scott lists this as 1959)
378 - $1 - Dec 27, 1958 - 1960 (Scott lists this as 1960)

Manfred, I notice that you have 374 and 377 listed as Sep 1959. Where did you find that date?

Thanks,
Travis

  • Travis,
these two dates are from Michel. According to Michel, 378 ($1) was also issued on this date, and all the 1958 stamps were issued on August 1. Michel is probably right. I have a cover with 372 and 373 canceled on August 1, 1958.
And yes, I should change the dates on philib.org ;-)
  • Travis, I checked but have nothing to help you with on this question.
